Talk Yorùbá

Privacy Policy

Last updated 9 October 2026

Talk Yorùbá (talkyoruba.com) is a website for learning the Yorùbá language. It is operated by Wigmorean Inc., Woodbridge, Virginia, United States (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have a question, write to us at info@ifa.university.

The short version

  • We collect what we need to teach you: your account, your progress and your quiz answers.
  • We do not sell your information and we do not show advertising.
  • If you learn through one of our partner sites, that site shares a small amount of information with us so your quizzes can be marked. Your grades stay with that site.
  • You can ask us to show you, correct or delete your information at any time.

What we collect

When you create an account

Your name, username, email address and password. Passwords are stored only in a scrambled (hashed) form that we cannot read.

When you learn

The lessons and items you mark as done, the answers you give in practice tests and the scores they receive, and learning statistics such as points, streaks and badges.

When you learn through a partner site

The Talk Yorùbá courses also appear on partner sites (for example a university, school or community organisation). When you use the courses there, the partner site — not you — sends us:

  • a code for the partner site and the partner’s own number for your account (not your email address or password);
  • the display name the partner holds for you, and a short label describing your access (for example a membership level);
  • the answers you submit in practice tests and examinations, so we can mark them.

We mark the answers and send the result back. Grades, transcripts and any academic record are kept by the partner site under its own privacy policy, not by us. We keep a log of marked attempts (score, time, the answers given and the partner code) so we can check the marking and improve the questions.

When you record for us

Narrators and other contributors have an account with us, and we keep the recordings they make, when they made them and which items they recorded. Recordings are published as part of the courses.

When you write to us

Whatever you put in a contact form or email.

Automatically

Like most websites, our servers record technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time. Our security software uses this to block attacks and protect logins, and keeps short-term logs for that purpose.

Cookies

We use the cookies WordPress needs to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences, and cookies our security software uses to protect the site. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we ever add analytics, we will say so here first.

How we use information

  • to provide the courses, mark your answers and show your progress;
  • to let partner sites offer the courses to their own members;
  • to keep the site secure and working;
  • to answer your messages;
  • to improve lessons, recordings and questions (for example by seeing which questions most learners get wrong).

Who we share it with

  • Our service providers — the companies that host this website and provide its security and email services — only so they can provide those services to us.
  • Partner sites — when you learn through a partner site, we send that site the result of each quiz you take there. We do not send partner sites information about your activity on talkyoruba.com or on other partner sites.
  • When the law requires it — if we must disclose information to comply with the law or to protect people’s safety.

We do not sell or rent personal information.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and learning record for as long as your account is open. When you ask us to delete your account we delete it, along with your progress, within 30 days, except where we must keep something by law. Security logs are kept for a short period. Recordings made by contributors are kept as part of the course material for as long as the courses are offered, unless the contributor’s agreement with us says otherwise.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to tell you what information we hold about you, to give you a copy, to correct it, or to delete it. Write to info@ifa.university from the email address on your account. Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom or California) you may have further rights under local law, such as the right to object to certain uses or to complain to a regulator; we will honour them. If you learn through a partner site, ask that site about the records it keeps.

Children

Talk Yorùbá is meant for a general audience. Children under 13 should use it only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission, or through a school that has arranged access for them. If you believe a child has given us personal information without that permission, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served only over encrypted connections, logins are protected against repeated guessing, and access to learner records is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you.

Where information is kept

Our servers are in the United States. If you use the site from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and stored in the United States.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and if the change is significant we will tell account holders by email or on the site.
